San Francisco City Hall will re-open on June 7, 2021
Due to the California and SF Bay Area’s shelter in place order, San Francisco City Hall has been closed to the public since March 2020. But here comes the good news, San Francisco City Hall will reopen its in-person services to the general public starting June 7, 2021. if you are planning to get married in this iconic city hall then the below information will be especially useful to you.
How to Get Married at San Francisco City Hall?
First, you need to figure out what type of wedding/ceremony do you want. There are a few types of wedding ceremony available at San Francisco City Hall:
- Public Civil Ceremony
- Private One-hour City Hall Wedding
- Private Two-hours City Hall Wedding
- Evening City Hall Wedding
Public Civil Ceremony at San Francisco City Hall:
- The cost of a public civil ceremony is $90 USD; you can make your reservation online.
- The ceremony will happen every half hour, Mon – Fri 9:00 am – 3:30 pm.
- Check-In at the Information Desk in Room 168 ten minutes before your reservation.
- The ceremony will be at “Rotunda”
- Only Six quests are permitted, including witnesses.
- Things require: Witness, marriage license, valid IDs for both of you
Getting Marriage License at San Francisco City Hall:
We highly recommend getting your Marriage License first. Which will cost you $110. This way it will make the process of checking in your ceremony much smoother. Be sure to schedule your Civil Ceremony within 90 days, which is exactly is how long the marriage license valid. You can make an appointment online which available from Mon-Fri 8:15 am to 3:30 pm. Be sure to bring your IDs with you and head straight to Room 168 on the 1st floor of City Hall on your appointment day.
Private One-hour San Francisco City Hall Wedding:
A private one-hour S.F. City Hall Wedding has 2 Locations choices for you to have your private wedding ceremony; which includes the Mayor’s Balcony or a Fourth Floor Gallery for up to one hour from Monday through Friday, with the earliest ceremony beginning at 9:00 am and the latest beginning at 3:00 pm. The rental cost for the one-hour package is $1,000. which includes an hour of access for up to 100 guests. Chairs are an additional equipment rental, with the Mayor’s Balcony seating up to 40 and the Fourth Floor Galleries up to 60 (remaining guests stand for the ceremony).
Unfortunately, food and beverage service is not possible. Acoustic music may be played with advance approval, and musicians must be selected from our qualified list.
You must provide an officiant as San Francisco City Hall does not offer one for private ceremonies.

Private two-hour San Francisco City Hall Wedding:
A private two-hour S.F. City Hall Wedding offers the occasion of exchanging vows on the Grand Staircase of the Rotunda surrounded by family and friends. For $5,000, you get SF City Hall all to yourselves. This package accommodates up to 200 guests and includes insurance and equipment rental. If your quest counts are over 200. There is an additional charge of $7 per guest ($100 minimum, which equates to 15 extra guests) that includes additional equipment and insurance.
Our Two-hour Wedding package offers the occasion of exchanging vows on the Grand Staircase of the Rotunda surrounded by family and friends.
This $5,000 package is offered on Saturdays only with the earliest ceremony beginning at 9:00 am and the latest beginning at 12:00 noon. The two-hour period is inclusive of load-in and load-out.
Unfortunately, food and beverage service will not be included.

Evening & Weekend Wedding Package:
Celebrate under the golden dome! Exchange vows on the Grand Staircase, enjoy a cocktail reception in our inviting North Light Court, and treat your guests to an unforgettable night of dinner and dancing in the magnificent Rotunda.
City Hall is available for full evening weddings on weekdays and weekends. Except it is not possible on Tuesdays because of the regularly scheduled meetings of the Board of Supervisors.
Some of the areas can be privatized for special event use during the public hours from Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
